Paul McGillion Stargate Atlantis

Paul McGillion

Dr. Carson Beckett was the Atlantis team`s original chief medical doctor. The lovable Scottish physician had a witty sense of humor and his ability to activate Ancient technology frequently landed him in compromising situations. He discovered the Ancient Gene in humans and also became an expert in Wraith genetics. Having given his life to save a patient, he is still fondly remembered by his teammates.

Paul McGillion recently completed filming on the political thriller The Deal, and received a Leo Award nomination for his portrayal of Dominic McKinley in See Grace Fly, a feature film on which he also served as producer. Written and directed by Pete McCormack, the film received a total of nine Leo Award nominations including Best Actor. It also won the Audience Award at the Portugal International Film Festival and was recognized with a special citation for Best Film at the 2003 Vancouver International Film Festival.

McGillion`s other feature film credits include A Guy Thing, The Replicant, The Crying Freeman, Something More, The Odd Squad and Jack. In addition, he lent his voice talents to the upcoming animated feature Inspector Gadget, in which he plays Dr. Evil`s unscrupulous sidekick Bomba Boy.

His many television credits include lead and guest-starring roles on such series as Jake 2.0, Smallville, The X-Files, the `90s version of The Twilight Zone, Just Cause, Stargate SG-1, Strange World, DaVinci`s Inquest, and the recurring role of David Aitken on Cold Squad. He also appeared in the television movies NTSB: The Crash of Flight 323, A Cooler Climate and Dark Target.

On the stage, his credits in productions throughout Canada include Spike Heels, Savage in Limbo, The Foreigner, Piano, Men Without Dates, the Canadian premiere of El Salvador and the Jessie Award-nominated Reservations for Two, which McGillion also produced and directed to rave reviews.

A native of Paisley, Scotland, McGillion is the sixth of seven children.
